Winter Solstice - 2014
I made a trip the evening of the Winter Solstice to Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake, Colorado, to catch some of the beauty of the winter season. Framed PeakPeak in the Never Summer Mountains framed by treezs
My first stop in the park, just past the Entrance Station on the Grand Lake side, was the Harbison Meadow, where there's a delightful XC ski or snowshoe trail. It takes one along the Colorado River and loops back to the parking lot, a great 3 mile or so loop.
The sunset was a grand one, I snapped a few shots before heading to the town of Grand Lake to catch the Holiday Light show before the stars came out in the Park.
The town's Christmas Lights are a sight to behold, shining on the white snow.
Warmed up and ready to shoot some stars, I drove back to the Bowen-Baker Trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park. Clouds were rolling through by this point, but the peaks and stars didn't disappoint.
Winter is a wonderful time to visit the Park, just be sure to dress warm and remember you're in the high country, the weather can change in a moment!
